Witchdoctor. Of. The. Living. Dead.

Last time I visited Nigeria, I was bored to death and ended up sacrificing my first love to the devil for wealth & popularity. That of course didn't end up going so well since I became poor and pee'd in a can.. So anyway, I decided to head back to Nigeria, but this time I would go somewhere rural and superstitious. At this rural/superstitious town, I met a witchdoctor.. A Witchdoctor of the Living Dead! Oh how fun it was to meet him! Fun but very, very, very, very, very, very weird it was!

In Witchdoctor of the Living Dead, a small town is being plagued by really weird shit. Dead people are coming back to life to kill the living, toy snakes are popping out of people's mouths, men turn into goats, and a bunch of other weird shit goes down. All that happens while old stock music from the 40's & 50's plays. Now you're probably wondering who the fuck is messing with this town, well it's an old bitter witchdoctor. He's seriously pissed off at this little town. Why? I have no idea but he's seriously pissed and he wants this town to suffer in weird ass ways.

My goodness, this movie is so weird. A little too weird, even for me! Either way, it's pretty fun. It gets confusing after a while though because the dialogue in this movie is sloppy as hell and you're not exactly sure why this or that is happening. Whatever though, just sit back and enjoy watching those cheesy but awesome looking zombies walk around & toy snakes coming out of mouths.

Supposedly this is the actual 1st Nollywood film ever made. It was shot in 1986. Living In Bondage (which is known as the 1st Nollywood film) was shot in 1992. To be honest though, I think  Witchdoctor of the Living Dead was shot around 92 or 93. The movie does not look 80's at all. Perhaps this is the 2nd Nollywood film ever made? Hmmm...

If you want to look into Nollywood films, then Witchdoctor of the Living Dead is where to start. Do not start off with Living in Bondage because that movie is boring. Witchdoctor is fuuuun and oh so weird. You like fun & weird stuff, right? Right! 5/10.

What is the clown with the melty face graduating from? Is it getting a masters degree in not being scary?

Yeah, pretty sure it wasn't made in 1986. I grew up in Lagos, and when I was a child, the trailer for this movie used to be shown on TV (should have been around 1993 or 94). I don't think they'd have been showing the trailer for an 86 movie in 93.

I don't think I ever saw this movie, but my sisters and I would run and jump on the couch and watch through the spaces between our fingers whenever the trailer came on. I wish I could find the full movie now. It'll be hilarious!

Yeah I figured it wasn't made in 1986. The movie looked way too 90's, but where I got the copy from said 86 so I just went along with that year. Interesting stuff, Uche! Thanks for the comment! Email me and I'll lead you the way to get a copy of this movie.
